My friend and co-worker Steve Coddington worked on this piece for months and it was finally published in the Times. If you live in Florida, especially west and central areas, you've heard about the Jessica Lunsford tragedy and the John Couey trials. Steve gained Mark Lunsford's (Jessica's father) trust and spent many crucial moments with him throughout the trial. The jury has recommended death for John Couey, but the judge is still determining whether Couey is mentally handicapped and can receive the death penalty.
As much as the pictures are great, the audio is what really makes this one a winner for me. Steve constantly recorded conversations with Lunsford and pieced them together for the slideshow. The narration isn't from a particular interview, but straight from Lunsford's impulsive thoughts and feelings during the process.
